All over the forums on all servers you can read that players are tired before TBC. Be it because of xmas holidays and RL commitments, but most just seem to think "it's not worth raiding before TBC". Why is that? Only because of the easy loot from PvP atm? Or because the items will be worthless fast in the expansion? Why did people get tired of conquering the 40 ppl instances? I think it's a mix between the above reasons and that players now tend to take a break for the upcoming two or three weeks. With the new epic raid dungeon limit of 25 players, we'll most likely see a lot of existing communities to break down and new ones forming. For some mid-sized guilds this even enables them to do guild runs into those dungeons. I forsee a lots of changes coming up and with the "equal level" of gear through the upgrades again, it does not mean that we won't see some new top-raiding groups.Even on Argent Dawn these symptoms take its toll. Looks like Suicidal Noobs ceased to raid 40 ppl content and lots of the members tried to fit in other existing communities. Seems many raid communities stopped raiding before TBC at all, resulting in many bored high-level raiders trying to organize BWL PURs or joining the C'Thun raiding project, a PUR of bored T2+ raiders trying to get C'Thun down before expansion comes. Although if you read this post, it seems it's not going without a bit of drama along the way.
Talking about the above raiding project, i had to grin when i saw one player including the info "Gender: female, Age: 28" in the sign up. Don't bother searching for it, the post was edited shortly after. Why is it that some players think this is vital information? This really reminded me of an article i read recently about the different types of female players and the problems that can occur. Read The E-Ho game (also read the comments, some pretty funny). And no, I'm not saying mentioned player is an E-Ho. :)
One other interesting thing i saw today: Wiimote as WoW controller! Probably right before christmas your TV ads show lots of Wii spots as well, look pretty funny tho i didn't try one yet. My guild split in early November and stopped its raiding back then. The guild I'm in now is building for TBC raiding content, but that means that the highest stuff we get into now is 20 mans. We've killed all the bosses in each of the 20 man raids now, so that's old. I tried to see if the guild would be interested in getting together with another guild for three weeks to make a concerted push to down Nefarian before the expansion (we were about to start Chromaggus when things fell apart), but nobody seemed interested.
PvP has become tiresome for me also, because if you're in a PUG, prepare to be rolled. When there aren't enough guildies to form a premade, it just gets really old, really quickly.
Of course for larger communities it will become hard to cater for the huge member base now. I think many will fail to do so properly and i see also groups of people split up from existing ones and build something on their own, which might become an even sharper split between hardcore & casual.
But i also think it's a great chance for many people to finally build a regular raiding community. With the experience from founding a 40 ppl raiding community, i know how hard it is to get the numbers of dedicated players.
IMO smaller communities should work on their teamplay, strategy and "raiding professionalism" by farming ZG, AQ20 and also Onyxia is possible. It will be even better if you can play together with them while leveling in 5 and 10 player content.
I really like the upcoming changes, they will change a lot together with the "gear reset".
But i can also fully understand when people don't feel like raiding before TBC anymore and are just bored. I'm leveling an alt so he can go into Outlands as well. Else there is not much left to do for Thulf, beside high-end instances which i don't really have access to on a regular basis at the moment.
Once again I am amazed by the lack of logic here. When communities (or guilds) failed to prevail on longtime objectives requiring 40 players why should smaller projects be successful in instances for 25 players? Isn't it obvious that problems just get scaled down instead of being solved?
Also the history of advanced raid communities is being ignored completely. To my knowledge and experience they hardly got founded the day after the initial release of WoW. In most cases their core groups got formed by those players that reached level 60 first, at least on PvE severs.
The very same social mechanics will inevitably happen in TBC. People having a life will level up slower. Powergamers won't wait for them, start the quest chains unlocking the content for raids of 10 or 25 respectively attune themselves as soon as possible and eventually join entirely new communities or guilds. Still this doesn't solve the core problems of raiding communities aka people dropping off due to bad connectivity, sudden real life issues or simply personal burnouts.
The obvious solution would be even larger communities than we got today to provide an infinite [sic!] pool of more or less trustable players. However the concept of DKP won't allow this for most players unless someone comes out with an idea how to provide players in a megacommunity with equal chances on rare drops. Until then it's obvious that successful raid communties/guilds should be able to provide 40-50 attuned players to either replace sudden dropouts respectively those not showing up or launch several smaller raids and parties simultaneously. I don't think I am spoiling too much when saying that even the lowest instance for parties of 5 poses a real challenge in heroic mode. And believe me ... you will go there.

Well, from my experience, while ofc the social dynamics will still be in place, it is easier to get a core of players (hardcore enough to show up regularly) being around for 25 ppl content then for 40. When you want to raid 40 ppl dungeons you need at least 50-60 players to make up for the absence that will occur and to ensure you've got full raids. For the smaller dunegons most likely 35 people would be sufficient. This can enable raid communities to raid with more likeminded people, be it for how often to raid or how "hardcore", resulting in a tighter group. In addition this will also enable some guilds to raid on their own, where - ofc depending on the group - less drama will occur as people know each other better and the smaller group will have a higher level of trust when players will be more willing to pass on stuff as they feel "closer" to the people they raid with. So hopefully the "we" feeling will become stronger then the "I", in a smaller group.
I think the split between "casual" and "hardcore" might become larger, but this can also be a good thing as everyone will have more fun. One thing i appreciate with smaller groups is, that you'll find out faster who is slacking and just tagging along while other bust their ass off to conquer the content. The role of the single player will become more important.
Of course this is just a possibility and we all know how hard it is to keep a group together, regardless of the numbers. But the possibilities are better for smaller groups then for those mega-communities, my two cents.
